How a College Speech Assignment Became the Story of Dee & Dee Brown LLC "What do you want to be when you grow up?" It's a question most people answer in childhood. I answered it again at 64 years old. For my COM 101 Fundamentals of Speaking course at Washtenaw Community College, I was assigned to give a self-introduction speech describing my future career. At first, I thought the assignment would simply be about introducing myself. Instead, it challenged me to think about something much bigger. What does a future career look like after military service, decades in the workforce, raising a family, and returning to college? For me, the answer wasn't another job.
